flower it up!

So here are some new creations that I'm really excited about! I've been playing around with hair bows/flowers for a long time now and I feel like these are the cutest things I've come up with!

So here are a couple of samples of ones I've made so far...many more to come. And I'm thinkin' if ya'll are interested, a giveaway might be coming up! I'm also thinking about selling them too, if anyone is interested...Let me know what you all think!

This one is an "adult" one that I made for a friend....The one above is a little bigger and looks cuter on a little girl!

These bottom two I made for babies/little girls. So precious!

head bands

I saw these cuties on this blog and on this etsy shop and simply fell in love! They are so fun and cute...I just had to bust these babies out! (No sewing needed...just twisted strips of fabric hot glued into a circle!)

mini calendar

I made this a few months ago for Christmas presents. I made four of them so I could have several gifts for people. The calendar is a little bigger than a card and has magnets on the back to hang up on your frig. The idea was that its there as a reminder of what day it is and something cute to hang on your frig! Enjoy.

Get Festive

Since I already have my Halloween decor out, I found some places I wanted to add to, so this is what I created for my kitchen.

The details:
"TRICK"-2"wide 7x9inch squares. spray painted black with sanded edges. I drew all of the letters free hand and mod podged them on.

"or" - used pressure treated wood. 4x4inch block. I used a distress ink pad like it was paper on all of the edges. mod-podged the letters on. (I did not use paint)

"TREAT" I used a 2x4 and cut it 4 3/4" blocks. After painting them orange and green, I distressed them with my distress ink pad and them mod-podged the letters on.

"TRICK" is in different heights because I proped three of the letters up so you can see them better. All of the blocks are the same size.

a la rustico

The idea with creating this recipes book was to use materials I already had. I've been wanting to make a book with these rings and I thought cardboard would look really natural and rustic. All of the recipes are in page protectors, so when I go to use it I just flip open to that page and then swing it around so it lays flat. I used my stampin' up tab punch and stamps and stamp pad for the word dividers. The cover was printed on velom by a friend and back with some cute paper! I love how simple and functional it turned out! Oh-and it's just 8 1/2 x 11 size.

Cutest paper on the block{s}

I LOVE these blocks...the young women were doing them in my old ward and my craft buddy and I have been talking about making them for months!
  • I bought a 4x4 thing of wood (which isn't a true 4x4...its actually 3 3/4...lame)
  • Cut them to be true squares
  • Sand all the edges and corners (an electric sander is faster)
  • Paint all of them edges and corners brown (or whatever color you prefer)
  • Mod-Podge paper with a sponge brush on all sides and there you go! (Less mod-podge is better...then that prevents bubbles on the paper surface
  • the letters I traced and cut out and then mod-podged on!

Tins

I saw these cute tins at Target in the $1 bins. I love looking through those bins, because you'll never know what you'll find! So I bought a bunch of them with the intention of using some to organize my craft supplies, some to give as or along with a gift, and some to make home decorations. Things like this are good to have handy, 'cause you'll never know when you'll need it! They're size is (L)7 1/2" x (w)4" x (H)2 1/2"

These were so easy to make...I cut paper according to the size of the tin and just mod-podged the paper on each side. It didn't matter if it was totally exact because you can't really tell with a project like this, plus it's a little rustic looking anyway. I saw covered tins like these of different shapes and sizes on a website once and they were $80 to $140 for a set of three!!! I'm here to tell you that it's possible to make them for only $1 and you get to chose what paper you want on there!

Here are some examples of what you can use these cute little tins for:

  • I think it would make such a cute baby shower gift...throw some tissue paper crinkled up on the bottom, place two or three or fore bows on the tissue and say it's for hair bows, so cute and easy!
  • I use one to keep my rub-on letters in.
  • You can also use it for a candy dish or to keep your kids colored pencils or crayons in!

With a Twist

My friend saw covered close pins. I thought that was so cute, I wanted to do them! Taking the ordinary and making it creative and new just makes my life so much more enjoyable! It's funny because now that I have covered close pins, I use them for a lot more than I thought I would! They're really easy to make. Cute strips of paper according to the size of close pins you have (there are several sizes you can buy, Wal-mart has them for really cheap), and just glue them on each side. The paper doesn't have to match or coordinate...that's part of the fun--putting different papers together! I keep them in a jar by my desk and hang things on the wall, as I need them.

Organize, schmorganize...

I don't know about the rest of you, but I have a hard time getting inspired, getting a project done unless I have everything organized. It's partially a curse, partially a blessing. Then... I bought the pegboard. Oh my goodness what a difference it makes for getting stuff done. Who knew $2 could buy you inspiration! I organized all the rest of my tools and ribbon and paper into clear tupperwares so I could see everything, even when it is put away. It is so wonderful. If any of you are looking for ways to organize, let me suggest... THE PEGBOARD!!

This is just an old frame I painted black and then added rub-ons and buttons to. Yes, for those of you who recognize this, the idea came from a magazine. :) But I love to use buttons on all my projects, they are so versatile and pretty!

Usin' what you got

This can o' flowers is a great way to accent any room in the house! I used a food storage can that probably had rolled oats in it or somethin'! I cleaned it out, removed the label and wrapped paper around it. Before putting the paper on, I distressed the edges to give it that complete and old look. I then tired ribbon around it. I already had the silk flowers from a job I had a while back. I love using items around the house to create something unique! I made this "vase" of flower for my computer desk to spruce it up and give the area some color!

Memories...

This is a great gift for Mother's Day. I think that a fun homemade gift like this, any mother would enjoy. Inside these crafty cans are memories for your mom. Sentimental gifts are the best. You can't go wrong with a little originality! You take a regular ol' can and cover it with scrapbooking paper and ribbon. And finish it off with a tag specifying what the gift is, in this case, "Memories for Mom"... ....then inside are 30 tags, a month's worth for you mother to take a trip down memory lane! To add a little color, some of the tags are backed with printed paper, just to add a little something....

I guess I like to make matching cards...

Yes, I have a bad habit of spending my time making elaborate cards for people who hopefully don't just throw them right away. Most of the time I like to make them match the gift or whatever the occasion might be. Unfortunately, I hardly take pictures of the cards that I make, so here are a few of the only ones I have pictures of.

This is just a birthday card for a girl in my Relief Society. I'm the RS Secretary so I get lots of chances to make cute cards for all the girls in the ward.

This is the card I made to match the...

...diaper changing pad to match the...

...burp cloths and the gift bag for a complete set!

This is just a card made for a baby gift. I made the flowers to match the little flowers on the dress.

Variations

I discovered a new love...Taking an item, in this instance wood squares, and making different, but similar gifts with it! Mod-Podge is so much fun. That is how I put the paper and letters on the wood.
I had one extra block that was a little bit of an odd shape, so I made a little wall hanging. I took rub-ons, one of my scrapbooking favorites, and added some inspiring words!

Lizzy

This gift is for my little niece who's turning two. I wanted to do something easy and cheap. I found the frame at our local annual scrapbook expo for $.50 and the "e" was $1.29...I already had the paper and ribbon...I'm all about good deals...So for less than two dollars, I created something original and cute! I painted the frame and "e" white and then sanded them to give it that distressed look. I glued ribbon on the back instead of using a claw hook. I had left over paper, so I made a matching card. I think that when gifts match, they always look more put together and complete!
