I love buttons!

My sister-in-law and I decided to try our hand out at button painting. We saw this ad in the Pottery Barn Kids magazine and thought it wouldn't be that hard to do. Theirs isn't made out of buttons. If you look really closely, it is a print of fake buttons on canvas stretched over a frame. Obviously ours didn't turn out exactly like the magazine, they turned out better we thought! I mean, who wouldn't prefer to use REAL buttons! This way we were able to use our own colors to match our girls' rooms. They were a little tedious but only to glue them all on without messing up any of the others. We went through at least 4 boxes of glue dots to finish these babies. Here are our finished projects.

A flower I made for Evie's room. I used all the biggest buttons I could find b/c the canvas itself is 12"x24".

Butterfly for Evie's room, matching colors of course. Sorry for the glare on the buttons, I just haven't taken another picture since.

My sister-in-law's butterfly in pink and brown for her daughter's room. Cute, huh!

How random is this... I received a mass email from a friend {yes, in Australia} telling us how great this blog is. So I clicked over and agreed, GREAT IDEAS ya'll! I was about to leave a comment when I for SNG clicked on the profiles to see who it was. Leslie's page seemed a little familiar, then I looked and saw MY blog on your sidebar {and friends Brick and Jocee} and realized I'd clicked over to your site before from my sitemeter {I like to keep abreast of who's checkin' me out}. I get quite a few clicks from your site to mine so I recognized the name after all of the pieces started coming together.

Anywho, I see people clicking to my site from emails and I always wonder who it was and what they said, so here is the text of the email, from my friend Sam:

Hello lovely ladies,

I was surfing the net this evening whist watching tv and stumbled upon this blog. It is a craft blog really but covers everything, stamping, scrap booking, sewing, Christmas stuff etc etc. and I thought that it was definitely worth sharing. I hope that you enjoy.

Hope you are all well and having a good week and keeping cool in this hot weather.

Love

Sam

Okay, anyway, these button paintings are an ADORABLE idea. I'm not so good at the sewing bit, so I think I'll attempt this non-sewing project. Hopefully next time I'm home I can enlist my MIL's help on some of the others!

Great blog!

I love these! I want to do some, but I was wondering where you got your buttons?

Unfortunately, I can't help you with where to get your buttons from. Mine came from my mother-in-law's mother's button collection that's been going on for years. It is a great stash! I know that you can find buttons in particular colors at craft stores like Michael's, JoAnn's and Hobby Lobby. Or you can buy in bulk online as well. I'm sorry I don't have a better answer than that! Good luck!
